    The Liturgy in the churches is over and the people are going back to their homes. But the priests and the monks will be staying as unsleeping guards protecting the churches and welcoming the tourists, even at the noonday under the African sun... by: oikoumene Views[331] Before you leave the place you will be receiving drops of holy water, from a fountain next to the church. None knows from where the water comes. Another miracle in this miraculous place... by: oikoumene Views[371] In each church of the 13 churches a priest welcomes the pilgrims to receive a blessing by kissing the crosses, which are unique in shape, theological explanation and mystical meaning. As you will be receiving the blessing he is whispering a few prayer words. The moment seems a transition to another world, beyond this one... by: oikoumene Views[437] Entering the most sacred of the monolithic churches, the Church of Saint George (Amharic: Bete Giyorgis). But before entering the place someone has to remove his shoes. The priests and the local people will warn you: “Be careful how you enter, this is a holy place, a God-made place...” by: oikoumene Views[805]  

    About oikoumene

    Apart from the few priests only some children with traditional costumes remained. The tourists are always happy to give a few coins to them in order to take the best exotic photo for their homeland. Among them there is also a young boy, wearing a western-style coatee. None wants to take him a photo; his appearance spoils the spirit and the atmosphere of the composition. But they don’t know what they are loosing...
