we flew from the very small airport at LEX/Lexington to O'Hare and then to Istanbul in Business Class on Turkish Airlines - 3 words to describe our flight FAB-U-LOUS! contrary to reports in many online reviews, our crew could not have been sweeter or smilier and seemed dedicated to making sure we had the absolute best flight of our lives - not too difficult when you have a HUGE seat and tons of delicious food - they even have little electric 'candles' to put on your tray for maximum atmosphere - i fear that Kelly may be spoilt for life after flying in the pointy end
here is part of the menu from the flight:
prawns on nicoise salad
chicken Caesar salad
roasted red pepper stuffed with goat cheese
fired zucchinis and eggplants and roasted red peppers
humus
yoghurt with cucumber
cheese puff pastry
green salad with tomatoes
and that was just the appetizer course!
we had such a lovely time that as we were landing in Istanbul, we asked one of the flight attendants for a form to give them a glowing review
BUT THEN - none of our 4 checked bags arrived - it took over an hour to file the reports, call Philip (who had been planning on meeting us at the Sultanahmet tram stop) and call the hotel driver, who wound up waiting for us for almost 2 hours
we did go out for a 'Turkish barbeque' dinner, with poor Kelly getting only the barest taste of fabulous Istanbul (we passed the floodlit Blue Mosque en route to dinner, but even if we had any energy for sightseeing everything was closed)
we went to the airport very early (left the hotel at 5:15am, not having had much sleep since we were worried about our luggage - if we only knew what was to come!) to talk with someone at the airport - i think that did help but it's all pretty much a mystery and we will never really know what happened
anyway - we had plenty of time before our flight to Casablanca - to enjoy the incredible Turkish Airlines LOUNGE that is hands down the absolute best business class lounge in the world (only possible contender would be Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Heathrow) - again, more delicious fresh (as in made by chefs before your very eyes) food, lots of seating of all types, simulated golf and toy race car track, TVs everywhere plus a cinema room, on and on....the bathrooms featured tons of marble and crystal chandeliers
we didn't want to leave but on the other hand we were definitely ready to continue (or to truly start) the adventure in MOROCCO!
