My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
India | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
Like anybody else as a newcomer to Mumbai, I was amazed by its glamour, its unparallel way of living and never say die attitude. These pictures tell the story of Mumbai and its people. How their faith in humanity, their liveliness and city’s never say die attitude is seen throughout the city, irrespective of the situation, profession, neighborhood and lifestyles. Through these pictures I put down an image of Mumbai which sometimes go unnoticed in this city of glamour and glitz. The small things that, make this city a city of dreams. As a novice, I have tried to show my skills capturing the things that came on my way giving them a different meaning, than what it appears as seen.
1. “The beads of faith” - taken inside an auto rickshaw.-The symbol of faith
2. “Gathering Dreams” - a kid picking up the rags in a drain in Dharavi- the largest slum area in Mumbai.
3. “Untouched Innocence” –taken at “Dharavi”. There is no proper sanitation, not enough supply of drinking water. Still people lead their life there with a smile on their face.
4. “Painting of expressions”- A graffiti on a wall near Mahim station, Mumbai. The colors and message was quite clear.
5. “A view from another angle”- from inside the Taj hotel’s lobby. The view of Gateway of India showed the liveliness of the place. Two year after the 26/11 attacks, life moves on as usual here.
The scholarship will give me an opportunity to learn something more, that I have missed out in these pictures. Being to a place like Bhutan, will provide me great experience to see the place, its people and culture .The assignment will provide an opportunity to spread awareness about the place to promote the mission of the people/organizations working in Phobjikha Valley (like The Solar Electric Light Fund -SELF)
