My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I am Nicole Miller, I’m 34 and need a helping hand to take my love of photography to the next level.
I could tell you my sob story of being a single mum, caring for my mother with cancer and battling with depression after my mother past away, but that is my past and I want to concentrate on my future.
I could tell you that I’ve been in the Scout Association and the Guide Association over the past 20 years, helping children develop a sense of who they are and what they want to achieve in their life time, but this is about what I want to achieve in my life time.
I could tell you that I topped my class while studying my Advanced Diploma in Commercial Photography, but that makes me sound like I ‘know it all’ when I understand that I know little and I have so much more to learn.
I could tell you that I love photographing wildlife but the majority of my ‘wildlife’ images are actually ‘captive’ or just pure luck. Learning how to plan and take real wildlife imagery is the next lesson I need to take.
So those are the things ‘I could tell you’. Here is what I would like to let you know:
My 14 year old daughter is encouraging me to follow my life dreams while she works out her own.
These include to travel overseas and to capture images of animals in their natural habitat (this includes the human variety).
Travel destinations of Africa, Antarctica, Alaska, New York and Sumatra (anywhere after these will be a huge bonus)
To be recognised as a photographer, being published by the magazine that started my interest in photography as a child, National Geographic Magazine.
Its time to turn my dreams into reality.
