Nicola and Liams Adventure

Day 24

I slept really well lastnight and so did Liam. We both had very very sore calves than hurt whenever we moved in the night though. We were both very very sore from all the downhill yesterday. Liam also felt quite sick and was very quiet. We went down for breakfast at 6.30am after packing up our bags, I had porridge with banana and Liam had muesli with fruit and hot milk. It was very nice again. We then went to catch our bus for 7.15am, what a bloody nightmare. I spoke about the bus journey there, well it was the same as that but for longer. We had seats but it didnt make a difference because the nepalese are hobbits and everything is so small. The isles were full of all sorts of people all crammed in, always had an elbow, a boob, a bit of groin, sweaty armpit or bum in my face. Liam was by the window mainly because he felt sick and thought he might puke out of the tiny slither of a window.
We stopped after about 3 hours and had some dal baht, Liam didn't eat and was looking a bit worse for wear. As well as that neither of us could walk properly due to our calves hurting!

We got back on the death trap for another few hours until we finally reached trishuli. We then had to wait about 45 minutes for a tyre to be changed. We met hari with our bags, he was all in white because of his mum dying earlier this year and was getting on the bus to Kathmandu himself. We munched on a bit of fruit and chatted to some Danish guy about 50 or so years old, who had the same complaints as us about being taken advantage of with prices of things. It makes us feel a bit better knowing its happening across the board with tourists and other people are as disappointed by it as us! Liam was such a drama queen the whole stop, moaning and groaning with every move as though he were dying. He was so anxious about gettino back on the death trap that he was wanting to pay extra to get a private jeep. We can't afford to do that though so we got back on. I didn't like it but it's all part of the experience so I'm happy to put up with it really, Liam was so traumatised though!

We were on it for about 4 hours and finally got back to Kathmandu. It was very odd getting back to a really busy city after where we've been. All the dust and people, cars, bikes. We got into our taxi and made our way back to the hotel with gorkana. A WESTERN TOILET! Oh my god. On it straight away just for the feel of the seat on my bum, so good! Liam was just as pleased by it! Warm water yippee! However it stinks and comes out brown half the time so not quite so great but still, we were happy.

I checked through my bags, was disappointed to find that our little bag of chocolate bars has gone for a walk from the rucksack we left behind during the trek. I guess we can't complain too much, it could have been a lot worse but come on....chocolate is really important especially to me!!
Liam was feeling very worse for wear but we needs to go meet phil, the main guy of the charity just for a catch up over food. We met with a few other volunteers from Canada, America, Italy and went for some food. I had buff momo and Liam had fried rice but didn't really touch it, he struggled to even walk to the restaurant he was so sore! We had a chat about how I had all gone, confirmed what a nightmare the medical centre was and how great the teaching was. We showed some photos a lot of which phil was very impressed with and will be using on the website to promote the charity. We were quite disappointed to be told that they'd picked up on the fact we'd had some puddings on the trek and that it wasn't covered so we owed a bit more. We had checked with the guide each time to see if it was covered and he said yes....if we'd known we wouldn't have had any of it! But trying not to get too bogged down by it...after all they made us happy at the time!

We then made our way back to the hotel, Liam chilled out and watched some stargate whilst I tried to organise myself and prepare a load of washing to get laundered properly tomorrow. We're at the front of the hotel this time which is the side of the holy tree so we will probably be woken up by the worship bell being rang in the early hours! Liam was already sleeping by the time I got into bed so I rubbed some tiger balm into my legs to try and ease the muscles and settled down for a nice sleep.
