    We explored a high altitude valley near Puncak Jaya. Despite the tropical latitude, the altitude means it is cold, the air is thin and snow is on the ground. This valley, we were told had less than 7 people walk into it in all of history. by: nathan_litjens Views[390] Natalius is next in line to be chief of his village in the Baliem Valley. He is showing off traditional decorations. A ring of eclectus parrot feathers sits on his head while a headband of shells and seeds with a tail feather of a parakeet sits under it. I loved the honey gold color of the body that contrasted with the black of the head. The labial scales have a delightful black and white pattern, much like the keys of a piano!
