Tragedy strikes Montreal

Montreal - the "Dirty City" - the second largest porn producing city in North America and home to strip joints for all sorts.  It was almost hard to notice this side of Montreal embedded behind all the churches.  You'll be glad to know that we didn't participate in any of the aforementioned lude acts.  We did however question Adelaide's claim to the title of the "City of Churches".  Montreal was quite nice despite its nickname.

Our hostel was quite different to the others we have stayed in.  We were able to get a private room for the same price as a dorm room and soon found out why.  Beds were scattered throughout this 3 story place, some littered the walkways on the way to the bathroom and others lined an open room above the common room, so everyone could basically see everyone else's business.  As Junior took a shower he could hear Denis Commetti - "stops, props, working in a telephone box!"  (Yes it was that small)

Our 2 days of sightseeing we were able to cover most of the city.  We saw the Notre Dame Basilica, St. Patrick's Basilica, St James Church, St. Mary's Cathedral (so many more churches), we also ventured to the Biodome, Montreal Olympic Park and many other pretty cool sights (Pics).  Mum and Dad you'll be glad to know that we even paid to tour the Notre Dame Basilica (Also Sacred Heart Church), we spent about an hour and a half and it was great to learn some of the history of Montreal.

We toured the Biodome on our second day, quite amazing to have 4 different climates all under the one roof (Check Patrick's Pics for amazing animal shots).  On our walk back home we were making our way in front of Montreal Olympic Park when we were approached by a dude with a microphone and his cameraman.  All I heard was "Oui Oui, Poo Poo, Jean Claude Van Damm" as he asked us some sort of question for the show.  He was quite disappointed to learn that neither of us spoke French.  Junior wasn't a real big fan of the French speaking Candaians, they came accross very rude (snapping their fingers to get the waiters attention when they'd been waiting a mintue!)

After making our way back along Saint Catherine we were making our way back up a slight hill on Saint Denis (said Denni) to our hostel when tragedy struck.  Junior's legs were a little tired after a big day of walking and he dragged his left foot along the ground (as we've all done on occasion) and it caught on the pavement.  After he regained his balance and avoided a face plant he saw it.  His thong - broken beyond repair!!  After limping back to the hostel Junior had to say farewell to his belioved thongs - a tear welled in his eye as he dropped them in the bin (So many memories).

Christopher we can feel the pain from here - perhaps we could airmail you a new pair if you can't find anything appropriate over there. Glad to hear the reflexes are still so keen and helped you avoid a face plant.
