31st of March we ventured to the local pub in San Diego called PB's (Pacific Beach) Bar & Grill to enjoy a few brews for Nat's birthday and enjoy the NCAA Final Four tournament games (for me). For anyone unfamiliar the final four is the semi-finals for college basketball. UCLA were still in the competition so there was a lot of interest in California and the pub soon became very busy. Unfortunately UCLA lost to the eventual champion Florida Gators but we had a cracker of a night, meeting lots of US Navy (San Diego is home to one of the biggest, if not the biggest, NAVAL base on the West Coast).
During the day we met a US Naval cop and his wife who were, well out there. They hit up Matt (our victorian taxi) for a threesome and after drinking a few double tequilas straight, and almost forcing us to join them, grabbed Matt for a photo where the wife got her jubblies out in the pub ... weird, getting weirder! They eventually left us alone and we were soon the talk of the pub as people enquired to our relationship with the couple. Nonetheless their escapades helped us meet lots of people and Matt was able to forget about his close encounter after a few beers.
Nat enjoyed the night which ended in dancing and then lots of laughs on the deck with some Irish backpackers at our hostel.
We were able to enjoy Nat's Aussie time birthday at the pub, but the 1st of April our time wasn't as enjoyable. Waking up at the crack of dawn to get going to Vegas and drive for 8 hours probably not the best way for the kid to enjoy her birthday, but we arrived safe and are now able to relax in the comfort of a double bed in a hotel ... ahh luxury
