A girl dressed in traditional Khmer costume gets off her feet in between costumers. A steady stream of tourists pays one dollar each to photograph her troupe. With over 1 million visitors to the site each year and rising, increased opportunity for employment comes with the price of site degradation.

Surrounded by 12th century rubble, a guide takes advantage of a quiet moment to text. In 1992, Angkor Wat was placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger due to illegal excavations, but was removed in 2004 after successful preservation initiatives.
