Yesterday, was pretty much just a day of commuting from London to Copenhagen. We had originally chosen Copenhagen as the most convenient departure point from Europe via Singapore Airlines at the end of our trip. Our itinerary had to change, to fit in with the later than expected music fesival in Tallin that we are going to.We wanted to have three days in Copenhagen so we fitted them in now rather than at the end of our European schedule. Coming from Tallin at the end of our trip, we will just spend one night at a hotel at Copenhagen airport instead.
We caught the tube from Russell Square to Heathrow then killed time at the airport while we waited to board our plane. When we boarded, the plane didn't get very far before it had to stop and we waited on the Tarmac for about half an hour before we could take off. The pilot told us that there was a queue of planes waiting to take off. This was because the runway used for landings was closed, therefore all landings and take offs were using the same runway. We eventually got airborne and arrived in Copenhagen only about 10 minutes late. We caught the train to Østerport and walked to our apartment. We have been to Copenhagen four times and have now stayed in this apartment three times. It is very homely and the owner (Marianne) is delightful. Her 3 year old dog, a long haired dachsund, greeted us at the door. We talked to him and played with him but he looked rather confused - probably because he couldn't understand our English! After a while, he started to appreciate us, despite the language barrier. Marianne has a very artistic flair and has numerous unusual light fittings and lamps everywhere. Each time we come, some of them have been changed. This time there are even fibre optic lights in the floor of the hallway!
Today, we set off to find some lunch, after having an easy morning. We took the train to Nørreport station and found a fabulous fresh food market. We had yummy felafel pitas for lunch.
After lunch we did lots of walking, with our main mission to see the opera house up close. We have seen it before from the other side of the canal but we wanted to get to see inside. It was closed but we peered through the glass to see the foyer area. We also had a ride in a harbour bus. Apart from this, we really didn't do much else today. As we have been here several times, we didn't spend time seeing all the usual sights that one sees when visiting Copenhagen.
Today's weather was very pleasant, around 17 degrees, no wind and no rain!
