My Photo scholarship 2011 entry - The Beauty of Motherhood

I am an automotive engineer from India with overriding passion for photography, with a special love for nature and wildlife. Dew drops on leaves, chirping of birds, fragrance of flowers, trees which seem to touch the sky with their enormous heights – nature has been nothing short of beauty in abundance. From my childhood, Mother Nature has struck me with admiration and the awe of capturing such fascinating visuals, that once gone may never again occur, has ever since been an inspiration to travel to different places for this very purpose.
Animals are more often than not seen as non-sentient beings. Through my pictures, I would like to show the world how both ‘human’ and ‘non-human’ animals are sentient beings filled with all kinds of emotions. I want to seize and keep alive forever those beautiful moments that fascinate me! Focused on a desire to capture the emotions and sensitivity of nature and her belongings, I believe that this scholarship would provide me with a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a professional wildlife photographer. Moreover, I believe that I have an upbeat passion and zeal to learn and understand the intricacies of the art of photography directly from Mr. Jason Edward, who works for National Geographic Channel the place I dream working.
For this competition, I have chosen to portray the “Beauty of Motherhood” in the animal kingdom through my photos. These birds and animals may not speak the same languages as we do, but they show the same emotions as us – love, care and affection. Motherhood is the purest form of relationships not only for humans and I hope to have reflected its splendour through my pictures. These pictures were captured during my 7-day travel photoshoot in Kenya.
