Morters in Gay Paris!

Oooooh Gay Paris, we are loving Paris and have been so lucky so far in our travels.  The flights were great and the hotel in Seoul a blast.  Even our luggage came off first at the airport in paris.  Then we arrive at our wonderful apartment and there are weights for Brendan!  It’s a fairytale trip on day 3!   The girls have been a joy to be with and we are so proud of them already.  We all spent 7 hours non-stop sight seeing first day and then 4 hours at the Louvre and a tour of Montmarte today including climb up to the  Basillica which looks all over Paris.  And they kept up with us!  The Louvre is soooooo unbelievable.  Enjoyed the actual buildings probably more than the art within.  Mind blowing.  The girls tried to give their lollypop to the Mona Lisa but she didn’t seem to want any – just had a slight smile on her face!  I have major brownie points on my travel planning so far, tho B is pissed off totally with the queues and no. of tourists here. He’s learning to chill out slowly.  The girls and I are on pace. Have the metro under control with a major station close by. Will need to mortgage the house for the Disneyland tickets. We have promised the girls it’s their day tomorrow and we have to do what they say.  B is already saying that he doesn’t know how I look after them all day.  So I’m on cloud 9 on all counts.  I'm on 2 x croissants and 3 x bottles of champagne so far (3 days in paris).  So much history to know and beautiful things to see.  Weather is low 20s and perfect.  It’s great where we are staying but we love Montmarte where all the bohemians and artists live.  It’s the only place in paris with a butte (hill) and there’s heaps of action. Will price an apartment for future ref.  Aren’t the kids due to leave home soon???  Am dying to go to the left bank in St. Michel near Notre Dame (the student’s area), as it looks so intricate and full of interesting spots.  The beach on the Seine is a little disappointing.  My French is turning into Spanish and the locals are looking at me strange so have decided to use English only.  The 3 way language melody is not working and we keep ending up nearly getting either too much of something or not enough!  Sienna and Brendan have been sneaking out of the apartment on secret morning rendezvous (eg. 6.15am) and Miki and I have been lounging til 7.30.  Goodness knows what they get up to but they look happy on return and sometimes bring a patisserie item with them.

Feeling very French but I suppose that’s only natural with my ancestry dating back to France at some early stage Dad????

I am never forgiving you Dad for mentioning that Paris had a Disneyland.  Talk about crowds.  And it is soooo huge.  We walked all day for 8 hours and could only get on 6 rides after waiting an hour for them each.  And then we couldn’t wait the 2 hours or so on the rides the girls especially wanted to go on.  They were really cool but B and I were so tired and when it began to rain about 5pm we left.  I think the girls would have stayed forever.  We don’t know how they can keep going when we are stuffed??? It’s weird.  Sienna cried herself stupid and shut eyes on the Snow White ride which was great with evil queen/witch special effects and then Pinochio too!  We did stuff them with baguettes, icream, toffee apples, lollypop etc.  It’s great fun watching dvds in bed on our portable player.  Have all been going to bed at the same time and girls sleep about an hour longer than us in the morning so has been working well.

Today is raining non-stop since waking and typical Paris I know.  We went to NotreDame with the girls banging into all and sundry with their umbrellas and then to St Michel for a fabulous typical lunch undercover on the street.  We had the best food.  Escargot – Sienna loved and ate two – Miki spit hers out.  French onion soup with massive cheesy crouton on top (just what I need).  And steak with pomme frites and pepper sauce and mustard to die for.  And of course a glass of burgundy.  I have finally given in to drinking red wine and am enjoying this daily too.  Onto the metro and home again to get off our soaked clothes.

We leave in the morning for Munich on the train and have had to book 2nd class as first class is full and we couldn’t get there otherwise.   That’ll teach me to book things earlier!

Hi guys - loving the blog! Certainly bringing back great memories of my 12 months away pre-kids. Would love to revisit when the girls are older....maybe as a teenager experience for all of us?

Have settled back home after 4 weeks in Bali, but not loving the Melbourne weather....everyone except moi (ha! my one-and-only Frenchie) has come down with a temperature...I guess it's expected given the extremes in weather.

Looking forward to your next instalment...
