wanderlust

on the brink of my trip

USA | Wednesday, 16 January 2008 | Views [473]

after spending five years in a windowless office working on my PhD and daydreaming about all the things i would get to do once i finally graduated and it seeming like i would never really graduate, i did! since then, i've been busy wrapping up various things, vegging and planning this next big adventure.

the first part of this trip i'll be spending on utila in the bay islands of honduras undergoing at least six weeks of training to become a divemaster. it'll be refreshing to focus on an activity i love and that doesn't require huge amounts of mental concentration (at least compared to what doing a PhD was like). i know it'll be challenging in its own way and i'm not assuming it'll be easy, but it'll be fundamentally different than what i've been doing in grad school for so long. i'm also thrilled to not be spending another january freezing in boston and an average water temperature of 80F in honduras this time of year is most appealing. :)

admittedly, i'm a bit nervous about heading out on my own, but i'm also really excited! in any case, i guess there's nothing left but to just go and do it. planning phase is officially ending..
