My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Living life should include loving what you do and what you do should make a difference somehow. My life has been full of many “loves.” I grew up in a very rural area in Pennsylvania and have loved spending time with nature and wildlife. I have five beautiful daughters, now adults and making their own way in the world. They have been my pride and joy and have helped me to rekindle my passion for photography. I have also had the pleasure to be a Labor and Delivery Nurse and to bring new life into the world on a daily basis. I have both laughed and cried with my patients and the nurses who worked under me as a Nurse Manager of a L&D unit here in Washington, DC. Loved my job and was able to make a difference in people’s lives every day. I had little time to pursue my love of photography until the last few years. When I began exploring photography in greater depth, nature and wildlife seemed to come as a natural subject of choice. I shoot my photographs in hopes that others will see the beauty that I see; that they will be moved or inspired by my photographs; that they will see something they have never seen before; that they will see something new in something they have looked at a million times; that they will look at the world with a new eye. I learn something new every time I set off with my camera and I strive to bring that to life in my shots and to allow that to teach me to take better and better photographs every time I pick up the camera.

I hope to educate people on the need for conservation of the Big Cats in particular. I believe that many people are simply unaware of the plight of these animals and I hope that I can help to educate people and get people involved through my photography. I am a supporter of 'Cause An Uproar' and 'ROAR' and encourage others to support conservation efforts as well.
