About mleffson
Luke is a first time father of seven cubs. Both he and the cubs have had some adjustments to make being part of a pride. All of these shots are straight out of the camera with no extra processing and minimal cropping. The cub, Aslan, was six months old at the time and although his fall was quite steep, not harmed. In fact, he was climbing back to the top tier a few moments later and loves following Dad around, mimicking his every move.
I hope to educate people about the need for protection of these wonderful animals. Their numbers are diminishing so rapidly and many countries, including the US, have not yet banned bringing trophies of these animals into the country. I believe that far too many people are simply unaware and if I can help educate people through my photography, I will have accomplished my goal. Please get involved with projects like 'Cause An Uproar' or 'ROAR' if you love these animals as much as I do. Help educate and support conservation efforts.
This is my entry for The National Geographic Channel & WorldNomads.com: Travel Photography Scholarship 2011 - South Africa.
I know I am up against some pretty awesome photographers but I will never know unless I try, right? The goal is to submit an entry that tells a story of a 'place.' The place can be anywhere and the images are judged based on the story, composition, technique, etc.The images are pretty much straight from the camera with minimal processing and only slight cropping per the rules of the competition.
What a honor it would be to go to South Africa with one the premiere photographers with National Geographic! A very long shot, I know...but one well worth taking! Wish me luck!
