Peaking into the world

A glimpse of Panama

[TWIRLING PRACTICE]
Also at Catalina festival I witnessed this quiet moment between these two girls amidst the stimulus of the festival. They were in a car park practising twirling their skirts, for their participation in a parade. I later saw them and other females twirling in complicated ways, in rhythm to music. After observing them, I realised that twirling in a coordinated way was not an easy feat. The girls seemed to be taking their preparation very seriously and with much dedication. There also seemed to be extreme effort that had been paid to their appearance; they were wearing makeup and complex and ornate hair pieces (as we're other girls and women at the festival). This festival and participation in it seemed very important to local people in the town and a lot of energy had gone into it.
