September 1
We woke up very hungover and late for breakfast. We found everyone else in the same situation. After scarfing down our meal we found the strength to go on a group hike to the big waterfall, with our guide Tiburon(the shark). He is a bio professor at the university of Washington who brought 26 students down for a week. We headed up to Leo’s House, the farthest house they have built, where there was a trail head into the rainforest. We followed Tiburon into the forest stopping every few minutes so that he could speak about local plants and wildlife ( which was really interesting). We saw several waterfalls before we finally got to the big one. Once we had finally made it we all jumped in and tried to beat the current of the falls. You could swim behind it but it would shoot you right back out. After an hour of swimming we climbed the hundreds of steps up to Leo’s House. On the way back home we tried one last effort to call back to the states by stopping at a local woman’s house so we could borrow the only cell phone in town. Of course she had gone to Puriscal for the day. When we arrived back it was already lunch. Rachel a new volunteer from Philly arrived, she seems very chill. Many of the older volunteers are leaving this week while new ones are arriving every day.
