Took the bus from Palembang to Padang in '74. The bus had canvas flap windows, all the locals got carsick, we got stuck in mud bogs, crossed rivers on barges where entrepreneurs had blown the bridges to make some money, it was great and all in only 2 1/2 days! We were stopped for prayer call early on morning and a huge Sumatran tiger jumped into the road about 20 yards ahead of us. He took a crap the size of bread box, looked at us and then sprung up a 15 foot embankment in one move.
