We pulled up for the night at the cabbage capital of the world - Kandasang.
It is a village. I thought we'd be in a hostel situation. Instead, late afternoon we arrived at a 'resort' - a group of very nice chalets called Kinabalu Pines. Our group took four separate rooms in one chalet and my room was huge. We enjoyed the big verandah but there wasn't much to see. The complex was obviously busy.
The men rested and Lyn and I went off to discover cabbages. Well actually we found pot plants and a typical outdoor food stall such as I've been eating and drinking teh at all the time. It was good to get to know her better, she's had an interesting life in Saudi and has done some very exciting orchid tours. They have a big garden in Wales they sometimes open to the public.
We wandered about as gloom settled in for the evening - in light, not in our attitude, we were having a great time. I was the more comfortable in entering the cafe and was soon drinking a teh tarik as we chatted on.
The next part is for Eddy. Most of the cats come up but stay a metre or so away. They are frugal feral scroungers. This small cream cat came up to me in the cafe and I picked it up by its scruff. It wrapped front paws round my arm, back legs on my wrist, burrowed its nose into my elbow and purred with its entire little body. AWWWWW. After a big love both ways I tried to put it down but it clung more firmly with its front paws. more awww.
Dinner was interesting. We shared a 'steamboat'. I've mentioned seeing one on a truck in Wangsa Maju on day 2 or 3. The English people preferred the familiar. Our Anglo-Chinese man Walter helped with the background knowledge of what to do. Its like a Korean bbq with boiling stock on top of the gas, instead of a grill.
I enjoyed the concept and the taste, and had about 6 big prawns, and lots of this and that. The others were not so fussed and ordered from the pay it yourself menu. We finished with lovely fresh fruit pieces.
It was soon 8pm and to be honest I was knackered so I excused myself and was very soon asleep.
