Cruising round the back streets of Melaka roughly parallel to the famous Jonkers Walk and Heeren St, I came across a shop with calligraphy and Chinese style paintings. Casting about and liking them all, I saw Lan! The Chinese orchids as per the fascinating talk at Timaru. Is there still a very expensive one alive by the water? The chap arrived from out the back, not dressed to receive visitors, and I asked 'this is Lan?' His face lit up - Lan Hua he said, ahh the fragrant orchid I replied, having been very good at listening at Timaru. So the conversation was animated as you can imagine. He confirmed he is the artist and I was able to identify the attributes of the artistic rendition of the plant, to his amazement. I have a beautiful little piece of art now, and Melaka has two very happy people.
