Zhangzhou

This is a Confucius temple in the heart of Zhangzhou. A lot of it was taken apart during the time Mao, but has since been reconstructed using the original material. I'm not a huge fan of Confucius, a lot of his 'teachings' were very sexist, but it's still interesting to learn about.

Here are couple of Confucian (551BC - 479BC) sayings I thought you (& others) would like:-

"No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance."

"An oppressive government is more to be feared than a tiger."

Conversely, here are a couple of misogynous sayings:-

"Those who cannot be taught, cannot be instructed. These are women and eunuchs."

"Disorder is not sent down by Heaven, it is produced by women."
