My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

For me, photography is a way of trying to make sense of the fascinating and complex world around us with its different cultures, traditions and all that comes along with it. The story that I have submitted is based on a series of photo's taken during a trip to Helsinki. Within this series I have endeavored to capture a glimpse into Finnish life, culture and architecture. The series contains images of local people relaxing in the main park drinking coffee with friends. It also highlights Finnish architecture with the dominating presence of Helsinki's main train station through to the more recent modern architecture. Lastly an image representing a connection to the Baltic Sea bordering the Finnish capital.
My goal is to pursue a career in photography and work internationally as travel photojournalist. I believe that such an opportunity as this will provide me with the impetus to push my own understanding of photography and photographic style in new directions with a focus on travel photojournalism. Apart from the invaluable experience to be gained I am also excited to be given the possibility to learn from such an experienced mentor.
