Feb 27/8th Day 19/20

ECUADOR | Wednesday, 29 February 2012 | Views [974] | Comments [3]

Another disturbed nights sleep! but watching the humming bird outside the window  at breakfast (all be it, briefly) made up for it!

Had a walk around the part of town we are staying in, nothing too exciting happening here, we did get offered some weed by a rasta though!. Matt still hasn´t had a smoke since we left, but he wasn´t tempted! (Although, he is a bit grumpy today!)

We booked a tour for a rainforest reserve tomorrow. Early start, being picked up at 6.30 a.m.

Tues

Tour to the Cloud Rainforest - Bellevista -

A 2 hour bus ride, way up in the hills, some amazing views along the way, very lush and green. We turned off the main road and drove up a track that must have been about 10 miles long.

We were greeted by our guide Nelson and about 10 different sorts of humming birds, all feeding off feeders filled with a sugar and water mix (fake nector!). It really was quite amzing, the different sizes and colours.

We have a nice breakfast of fresh fruits, eggs, nice homemade bread and really good coffee! We eat with a nice couple from Vancouver Island, Canada, Hazel and Jerry (although they were born in UK).

We then go on a 2 and a half hour 'amble' through the forest, it is quite steep in places, but it is so quiet. Half way around, it starts to absolutly pour down! It is the 'rain' forest afer all!

We head back for lunch, soup, trout with a lovely sauce and some amazing ice-cream. We have a small beer and my first glass of wine, since leaving home! ($8!) The owner is British and trys to talk us into staying overnight, at those prices, I don´t think so!

We bird watch for a little longer, it's still pouring, but it doesn't put them off! then get the mini-bus back to the city at about 3!

Good day out.

Move on to Banos tomorrow, looking forward to getting out of the city, three days is enough for us!

(We are having problems putting photo's on the blog. We have managed to put a few on facebook, though. We will try again soon.)
