Before I start, I want you to know I am typing this on a key board, where most of the letters have worn off the keypad! Also, no spell check, as it is in Spanish, so sorry for any mistakes!
Packing up!
Joyce has offeed to make us Bake ´n´Shark as a leaving lunch. (We have to be at the airport ofr 3 p.m.) This is a traditional meal, which we have not yet managed to have. (She is so thoughtful). It´s shark, which she has marinated in herbs and spices, then it is battered and fried, this is then served in a dough, a bit like a pitta, but ´deepfried´ so it puffs up, this is them filled with the shark, salad and lots of dressings! Joyce reckoned she isn´t much good at making this, but how wrong she is! It was really nice.
We say our farewells, and Karen and Chris take us to the airport.
We check in, what a performance! They want all sorts of proof that we are not going to be stopping in Ecuador, indefinately. We had been told by the travel agent, this might be the case, so we are prepared! We produce our tickets for our outbound flight from Chile to NZ and our tickets for our trek to Machu Picchu too, this, with the fact we have credit cards, is enough to get us in!!
I feel as sick as a dog on the flight, which is extremly annoying, as I am in business class! I have to cancel the red wine and beef dinner I ordered when I got on! (Feeling a bit better now, though, incase you were wondering! Matt´s much better too).
Arrive at Quito, Ecuadors capital, late, but safe. Check in to our VERY basic accommadation at 1 a.m.
