My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
India | Thursday, January 10, 2013 | 5 photos
My parents come from a tiny village town in Punjab, India and migrated to rural Australia five years before I was born. My childhood was spent travelling back and forth between India and Australia-- back and forth between two incredibly opposing cultures. The last time I went back was 5 years ago, when I was 15. This is the first time I am travelling through India alone and as an adult.
A week before I left, I bought a Canon 60D and the initial plan was to make a documentary about my mum and dad's hometown (Dasuya, Punjab). I have always been interested in video more than anything so I naturally never expected to fall in love with taking photos. Now I think I'm addicted and take photos everyday. I've been making short films for a few years now but I've been taking photos for only a few months.
I was studying Psychology at university but I found that incredibly boring and pretty soul-destroying. So I took a year off to travel and I've subsequently learned more about myself than a six-year degree could ever teach me. My interests are in people and documenting their likes/dislikes/values/culture/existence in the world.
