Its been a few weeks since I last wrote, and its been a HECTIC… I haven’t written because a) I haven’t had much access to the internet, and b) I have been run off my feet and haven’t had a moment to log on!
I am working on a gorgeous 30m motor yacht named Inspiration – there are 5 crew, and it sleeps 12 guests, but fortunately we have had a max of 6 so far!!
The first trip planned was for the boss’ honeymoon – leaving on Saturday 23 June. It was the most frantic rush because the sale of the boat only went through late Thursday afternoon, so we had one day and 2 nights available to get the interior up to standard – usually this would take at least 3 days (ironing sheets on to beds, making everything sparkle!). The linen only arrived on Friday afternoon, we were madly shopping for supplies and flowers etc on Thursday, and we were flown to London for the day on Tuesday to meet the owners – of course the plane was delayed on the way back so ended up getting to the hotel after 3am, and its been similar hours ever since!
The first week with the owners and their guests on board has been really busy, but it gets easier every day as we get to know their habits. I am working with a fantastic SA chef, who is also excellent with entertaining and décor etc, so he has been a huge help. I am becoming an accomplished napkin and toilet paper folder, haha!
For the first week we stayed in Portafino, Santa Margherita, La Spezia (along the Italian Riveira), St Florent and Calvi (Corsica). The captain is very good about getting us all to spend some time on land, so I spent some time ashore in all the ports. We had one particularly large night out in St Florent, with a selection of cocktails and flaming shots, ending up with the boys line dancing… I am loving my new little camera that I can take out at night and take incriminating photos and videos : )
We have had a crew change after the first week, the old captain went home this morning, and now the new captain’s girlfriend will be joining us for the rest of the season, which is GREAT for me because I won’t be running around doing 10 things at once like I have been this week, and she has 3 years experience in the industry. Also will be nice to have another girl to keep the conversation tidier at the dinner table!
I am currently on the 9pm- midnight watch on the way to Palma, Majorca – we left this morning after the guests left at 6am from Calvi. Its been a pretty chilled out day – we are all shattered and very short of sleep, so its been good to watch a couple of DVD’s, sleep and chill. We have 4 days in Palma before the owners come back with more guests, so will hopefully have one day off, and the rest of the time we’ll be running around and getting ourselves organised.
Pumping the music on the bridge this morning on my 4am to 8am shift and watching the sun rise over the Med is a pretty pleasant way to start the day! Off to bed now!
