The use of motor vehicles on the Island is kept to a minimum. Visitors are encouraged to use bicycles for transportation. This makes for a safer environment for both Island visitors and the quokkas.

One of the major attractions for Island visitors is a loveable marsupial, the quokka. These animals where once common on the mainland but have been decimated by introduced species such as the fox and domestic cat. The Island boasts a thriving quokka population as these predators have been eradicated.

Outside of the tourist precinct quokkas are harder to find. Luckily there are other species to catch the eye such as the rainbow bee eater. These migratory birds visit the Island around November and dig a burrow in the ground to lay their eggs. This male is on the lookout for predators.
