My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Since I was a child, I have always been fascinated with the hands of my father, those big veins and that kind of deformity he has always had from training as a boxer during his youth.

The illness of my father was a shock for all my family, as literally overnight he turned into a person we no longer recognise. He is still a father and a husband to us, but also a stranger as his personality changed, like a big and strong man that now needs special care around the clock. I think in this picture, my brother’s face reflects a kind of sorrow that one can only display when remembering good old times, close to your heart.

One day I expected to see him mumbling some songs, as he sings when he is happy. However, on this day he was ill, and was not hungry. His false teeth had been removed, and he suddenly seemed so old to me that I could feel his loneliness in this world, without understanding what is happening around him.
