SO

I am meeting with the guy today to discuss if I can remain in that class.

Tracy emailed us and our grades ARE based on percentages.  Which means, if I get a grade like Danny (87% HIGH DISTINCTION GREAT JOB BEST IN CLASS) I get a B.  A High distinction here is something like a 80%-100% and NO ONE gets over a 90% but at home they are only counting A's as 90% and above.

So if I get a GREAT GRADE at an 87%, it's a freaking B.

Tracy said if you bring home your work you can take it to the Unit Chair at WSU and discuss it but goodness knows how hard it is to get WSU to do anything good!

I'm tempted to go to my tutors and say "Look.  I don't want a higher grade.  But if you think I deserve a great grade.  The HIGHEST in the class, could you give me a 90% and above?"  or maybe at the end of the semester ask for a list of the grades, so I can take it home and show them that I had ____ ranking in the class even if it came out to look like a B.  This is going to KILL my GPA.

I even asked what a WONDERFUL PERFECT paper received and all my teachers said around 89%.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO!

You can kiss my life good bye.  If I have to get 90%-100% to get an A.  Well I'm just going to hole myself up.

I went to get my concession card form signed yesterday

Lady: I'm sorry miss but I can't sign this.  You are study abroad.

Me: That is what this letter is for.  It is signed by the International Department saying that I am a full time exchange student.

Lady: I'm sorry miss, you are in the records as Study Abroad.

Me: It says on the form if you have any questions to contact Caitlin Smith here _____.  Would you please call her.

Lady: Miss I do not have time for this.  You are not the only one that has tried to trick us.  You are study abroad.  I am sorry there is nothing I can do.  It's the law.

Me: I understand that you can't sign the form for someone who is study abroad but I am an EXCHANGE student according to this university.  I have a letter from the University saying so.  They gave me this so you would sign my form.

Lady: Miss you have to leave.  What you are doing is asking me to break the law.

I asked for her name.  She wouldn't give it to me.  She wouldn't call Caitlin Smith.

AND surprise surprise.  Caitlin Smith is on leave anyway.

Shouldn't they have someone to fill in when Tracy leaves the office with pneumonia and when Caitlin leaves her office for vacation or whatever?

Shouldn't they?

This is RIDICULOUS!  I hate this place and studying abroad right now. I hate it.

I hate it.

I want to make a giant poster that says "Don't study abroad to make your academic records look better.  It just screws you.  You come home with an effed GPA.  Unless you're a drunk and are excited you can go to bars under 21.  Then everyone will fall at your feet." and carry it around with me.

Thoughts?

Please.

Registration for WSU summer quarter is April 15th and there's two options I have, for B quarter which is July 21-August 21

Art and the Child, Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30am-12pm and Health Education for the Middle School Student, Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00am-11:30am.

Do I WANT to take a summer class?  Or do I want to hang out with people I haven't seen in forever.

Thoughts again?

Please.

Love always,

Mary

PS On a lighter note I'm feeling better and the assignments (all freaking four of them that are all 50% of my grade that are due April 28th) seem INTERESTING and not complete bogus like the last assignment...yay?

I will look for my Grade Conversion Table from Deakin.

They are percentage grades but they are converted from Australian grading standards to USA grading standards at the study abroad office at WSU. You will get a conversion chart with your transcripts when you come back to the States.

AUS Grading -> USA Grading:
High Distinction (80% and above) = A
Distinction (%70-%79) = B
Credit (60%-69%) = C
Pass (%50-%59) = D
Fail (%49 and below) = F
