Abdul, Nishad and the Library

So hilarious day today.
I tried to go to one of my classes and no one was there. I checked my email and the site again and again and it still said we had class. There is one other guy who showed up but somehow EVERYONE ELSE got the message. So is life.
I've taken to being VERY careful about things because my luck is so bad. For example I didn't carry the eggs home from the grocery, because I'd probably break them.
Just my luck these days.
So Lindsay and I ate lunch and just to get a jump start on things I did my required tour of the library. One of my classes had it as an assignment. I thought I was going to die. For goodness sake it's a LIBRARY! I know how to use a LIBRARY!
Anyway, you would have been shocked mom. It wasn't pretty. They actually had newspapers lying on the shelves for their "periodical" section. Then they showed us how to use call numbers for 30 minutes. I almost fell asleep. I think I saw a special on animal planet once about how a monkey figured out how to use call numbers.
Anyway the tour guides were Abdul and Nishad. We were a group of girls. I think because I was standing there waiting for a tour and some girl asked if I was waiting to check out a book and I said "No, a tour, I have to do it for class" and she was a first year I believe and FREAKED out and said "DO I HAVE TO DO IT FOR CLASS" and I said I didn't know, but I did, and she called like 5 friends and they all decided to do it just in case so they went along and then I think it was like the Croc's epidemic. Everyone was wearing them so everyone else had to wear them. I never did but that's because they made me feel like a gardener. Anyway I think since there were 7 girls going on a library tour, ever other girl had to go on a library tour. Abdul and Nishad kept saying "Follow us pretty girls" and "All the pretty girls upstairs, go go go, we're going to find a book, go pretty girls". Then mid-way through the tour, I think every boy figured they should join in because CLEARLY it was the place to meet girls, but then we had to start reviewing things they'd missed....it was a mess. Anyway, every ten seconds Abdul and Nishad would stop and say "This is fun, no?" and "This is a book. You can check out the book where? At the desk. Good! We improve." and every once and awhile they'd stop mid sentence and discuss in their native language a word they didn't know. For example "This is a book. You take book. You read book. Do you put the book back? No you leave the book here on this return.....sakgjklasjglajglkasjglkasjg lsajglksajlgksaj [Native Language] askgjalksjglkasjglkasjglka shelf no? See this is fun! It's like a party!"
They were adorable. Made the process a lot more fun.
I yawned once and Nishad stopped and goes "You're sleepy. We're boring. We're boring Abdul. I'm having fun! Have fun pretty girls!"
Anyway it's not a pretty library. You don't want to hang out in there.
On the second floor there's this HUGE painting of a stern looking man staring down at the study tables. I'm not sure, but that's the law floor, and I think it's to encourage them to keep working.
There's TWO good things I can say about the library. One being they have this wall for returning books and its separated by call numbers. 300-400's in one, 500-600's in another etc. Seemed effective. The second being this huge, I'd almost go with BED like thing. It's green and cushiony and people sit on it scattered around sort of like how they lounge in the grass outside. Only it's not itchy. It's still green, but it's not itchy. I sat on it awhile. Liked it. Moved on.
I'm tired again. I think it's the mile walk to class and the mile walk back. Sun drains you a bit.
I'm not SURE it's a mile but it's at LEAST 3/4 of a mile and it's hot.
Anyway
No class today.
Time to study study study. Well read.
I also have to watch Stuart Little and write down the issues of Gender Race and Class in the movie. Apparently, Snowbell the cat is gay.
We shall see....
Over and out,
Mary
