Chal Basanti Chal! My extended holiday around the world

Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

UNITED KINGDOM | Tuesday, 24 February 2009 | Views [394]

What i liked about the Cameron Highlands

1. Cool mountain climate - a welcome relief from the humidity of malaysia

2 Breathtaking green mountain scenery - the cultivated tea plantations make the mountains look like they have been covered with a lush emerald/parrot green carpet - simply wonderful

3. Cream tea and scones - the area used to a british hill station and there was even an old tudor style house around (now converted to a restaurants)

4. I even liked the afternoon rain - reminded me of Blighty

5. Relaxed peaceful and hassle free atmosphere

6 Did a one day tour of the oldest tea plantation in the area (very interesting (in a non nerdy way) to learn how tea is made), rose and butterfly farms, local market and a strawberry farm (the strawberry milkshake was to die for - best i have had)

I spent 3 days here in the highlands. There are some pleasant walks around the forest but given that Jim Thompson (the famous silk trader) went missing (never to be seen again) after taking and afternoon stroll and the fact that I am a lone female traveller i decided against going on my own and was disappointed not to have hooked up with another fellow traveller to go with

Travelling alone has so many advantages and i have to say most of the time i love it as i can do what i want when i want. I've also discovered that actually, I quite like my own company. Having mostly flat/house shared since leaving home at 18 i wasnt really sure whether i would be very good on my own as i've always had quite a hectic work and social life.

However, the downside is that i have seen some spectaculour sights and there have been some magical moments which i would love more than anything to share with friends ("real true ones" as OFM would say) /family/loved ones. Its very easy to find travel companions whether it be for a day or a few weeks but even then, travelling can be quiet a lonely experience when the people you care about most arent here to share that special moment with you. Instead you share it with a stranger whom you probably will never keep in touch with. Whilst I can and will continue do this on my own....it would be much better shared.

Also being a lone female traveller there are just somethings that i am more cautious about doing eg walking in remote areas on my own - its just not worth the risk which can be very fustrating and limiting.

Not that i am complaining of course. I understand the economic climate and weather in Blighty is quite dire and so i thank my luck stars every day for being so fortunate to be able to go off on my little adventure.

Arrivedi in India last night. Here for 5 weeks and will hook up with my mother and brother for the first 3 weeks. As I will be in my fathers village in Punjab i am not sure i will have internet access but i will be with family and safe so dont worry if you dont hear from me for a while.

Bye for now
