My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Philippines | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos

Sometimes it is better that I don’t tell people how I view the world. My words don’t always come out right and what I truly mean is sometimes too difficult to explain. I feel I’ve found a helpful way to express many of those thoughts with just a camera. Those who know me can attest to my desire and willingness get out and see the world, and photography seems to be the most fitting way for me to do so.
I am finding that what I am doing in photography can no longer be called just a hobby. If I am fortunate enough to be mentored by someone like Jason Edwards, I believe many answers about taking things to a level of professionalism will be revealed. The photos I have provided are a part of my first true experiences in photography, and of my first true experience of travel in the Philippines. I have been to the country a small number of times growing up, but I can honestly say that I have never really traveled or seen the country in the way I have during the time these photos were taken. I wish I could show you the complete album of this trip, as I feel it would better represent an experience that has clearly set me on a way through a lens.
The image of the young girl in orange was my epiphany in photography. My understandings and admirations of light and camera have never been the same. When I feel thankful for where I am in this stage of photography I find myself drawn back to that image.
