Batanes is known for its Ivatan culture - unique even within the Philippines. Inspired by Spanish colonists, many of the houses around the islands still use these fortified structures to protect from typhoons. Declining populations also leave many of these houses to ruin.

The Batanes Islands are the northernmost province of the Philippines and located about halfway between Luzon Island and Taiwan. This is overlooking the rolling hills near Bosco on the more inhabited island of Batan Island.

I spotted a man with two poles fishing on the edge of the surf. Known as Manauy, this style of fishing doesn't require one to endure seas that are regularly dictated by the all too familiar northern winds from the South China Sea
