My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

It's not an exaggeration to say that photography has changed me and how I see the world.
Through the viewfinder of my camera I’ve learned the importance of taking the time to study my subjects and discover their essence. The beauty of everything is magical to me and makes me want to capture it – some days, I feel like everything I look at is a photograph, and every day certainly is an adventure. This way of seeing is now ingrained into my way of life, and I realize it has evolved into a positive virtuous cycle as I strive to further improve my photographic eye and ability to convey my feelings with each image I make.
It is my burning desire to convey this to the viewer and thus impassion them too. To me, photography is a powerful form of art and a communication tool - I wish to use my photography to raise awareness about important issues. I have recently become a volunteer for Operation Smile, an NGO which provides free cleft palate and lip surgery for those who cannot afford it, and will join their upcoming missions following which I will help them raise awareness in the community through my photography.
Despite my passion, everything I have learned so far, I have learned on my own. I am eager for someone who can act as mentor on my photographic journey, and this scholarship is the perfect opportunity for it.
I am hardworking and passionate, and have potential for further exponential growth. Mr. Jason Edwards, this privilege won’t be wasted on me.
