We had our first full day in Cape Town today. We woke up later which was nice, even though I was up at like 6. It's not been fun waking up to a head and stomach full of anxiety. I've been trying to be social but I can feel that I'm not being myself. Trebor keeps asking what's wrong. She just doesn't and has never understood what it's like have a close relationship to your family. No one even cried when they dropped her off at the airport, not even her mom. Then again, her mom is the same woman who laughed at my dad for crying when they dropped us off for Italy. No judgements, but I strongly perfer my family situation. We got dressed and walked down to the water front by our apartment. The area really is beautiful. Pretty ritzy. We walked down, experienced the wind, Jenny's dress flew up in her face when she was taking a picture of us, then we walked back to the apartment and caught our cab down to the VA Waterfront. We had lunch at this place that was right on the water. I tried my first South African cider, a Savannah Dry, and it was delicious. Pretty sweet though. And they serve it in a glass over ice, strange. Next we ordered a Hunters Dry, which I preferred over the Savannah. Not near as sweet, but very refreshing. I also had a grilled fish dish that was delicious! I have felt better seeing Aaron texting his family. I know he kind of gets it, even though he's a guy and doesn't really. Trebor has just been texting and talking to her friends all day. I know I'm not the only one who can sense that she doesn't want to be here with us... like we are cramping her style. Trying not to let it bother me since it's only the first day.
After lunch, we walked over to the aquarium at the waterfront. We got tickets because the feedings were about to start. It was pretty neat. Haven't been to one in while. I took some pictures and everything, but I just wasn't into it. I felt so akward. After that, we walked around the waterfront, looking at souvenir shops and stuff. Trebor bragged and bragged about how much she knew and where all in the waterfront she hung out. Then she bitched about seeing a Mandela/Obama tshirt. Things really haven't changed. We went into this one souvenir store that was like four stories tall. They had a jewelry section with all of these huge druzies which were apparently all from South Africa. Might have to go back and get something from there.
From there we caught a cab back to the Observatory neighborhood where Trebor is living and where I will be. We walked around and went into Spar, so Jenny and them could get some stuff. We walked back to Trebor's apartment. It's really very nice. We were walking up the stairs and Jenny made some comment as to that is why Trebor is so skinny now. She just can't leave it alone. I'm so glad that Elise has Aaron here to stand up for her. We hung out at Trebor's apartment for a little while, met her roommates, then walked to this restaurant called Trenchtown. They had half priced pizzas and an outdoor seating area that was nice... except our waitress ignored us the entire night. We caught a cab back to their apartment and now I'm laying on the couch, thinking about how my internship is strating tomorrow. Nervous as hell! They are all going to Constantia tomorrow for a wine tour with a guy who Trebor likes, which means Jenny will be all over him.
