My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited -

My recent year-long backpacking trip ignited a passion for travel photography that I had never experienced before. Being a graphic designer, I am exposed to photography, but never understood how satisfying being behind the lens truly is. I love the act of capturing a moment, and the interaction that takes place before the button is pressed. Quite often I would give a donation of food, or a buy a local a beer before asking for a picture. "Puedo sacar uno foto por favor?" quickly became my most used term in South America.
Even after my SLR camera was stolen during a 20 hour bus trip in Peru, I switched to disposable cameras and loved the excitement of not knowing what was going to come out once they were developed. My entire ethos on photography dramatically shifted once I realised I was visiting towns, people and sites JUST to take photos. The excitement was the adventure of that moment. Of finding new faces to shoot and discovering a new world as seen through my lens.
If I were to win this scholarship I want to take pictures that tell a different side to the story, that open minds with every frame and create a lasting impression on the world.
