Time in Bali

at Jepun Cottage, Penestanan, Ubud 12 Oct

Arrived yesterday,  at villa renting on the outskirts of Penestanan Village, called Devi's Place. There are four villas here, all on the edge of rice fields. Bit cooler here than Sanur, for the first time I have my jacket on. Today going exploring Ubud, & the villages surrounding for handiworks/silver jewellery. Everyone has been very friendly, and its nice to have some control over my life again, being in a hotel has meant I could not make my own food, or have a coffee when I wanted too. I had toast last night for first time since arriving! I hadnt realised how much I missed eating bread! Although it tastes not quite the same, in fact, everything, like fruit, butter, milk etc tastes slightly different. Well the rice is the same! Mangoes are eaten green, if they are yellow they are considered over-ripe, and that has been the case. Going to see if can get motorbike today, so won't have to rely on 'transport' touts. I think up here its more casual, certainly its more laid back, without the touristy cheap stores selling souvenirs.
