Michaelmas, celebrated on September 29th. This is our harvest festival, usually marked by courage games, building a harvest altar and sharing a communal meal. We have done a healthy, hearty amount of, gardening and leaf raking, before the harvest meal.

St John’s Day, 24th June, is celebrated with the whole community playing outside, a huge bonfire and shared picnic. This is the festival of the summer solstice. A serpent of fire rises above our heads, spitting, spewing flame after flame. Bits of ash are dancing in the wind.

Martinmas, on November 11th, celebrates the life of St. Martin, a soldier who transformed his life in order to serve others. This festival is marked by a colorful lantern walk; the children make their own lanterns. We have let a few dozen lanterns fly high. There is quite a lot of joy in seeing the lantern set sail in the sky.
