    Views[102] Martinmas, on November 11th, celebrates the life of St. Martin, a soldier who transformed his life in order to serve others. This festival is marked by a colorful lantern walk; the children make their own lanterns. We have let a few dozen lanterns fly high. There is quite a lot of joy in seeing the lantern set sail in the sky. Views[235] Michaelmas, celebrated on September 29th. This is our harvest festival, usually marked by courage games, building a harvest altar and sharing a communal meal. We have done a healthy, hearty amount of, gardening and leaf raking, before the harvest meal. Views[254] St John’s Day, 24th June, is celebrated with the whole community playing outside, a huge bonfire and shared picnic. This is the festival of the summer solstice. A serpent of fire rises above our heads, spitting, spewing flame after flame. Bits of ash are dancing in the wind. Views[279] Whitsun, or White Sunday, the seventh sunday after Easter. Well, it originated as a pagan celebration and then it became a Christian one. We all dressed up in white and went on a donkey walk. Megan, who always likes to drag someone else around with her is very busy at the moment with a football. Nothing else matters. Views[289]
     
    Candlemas Day, hinting at the hope that spring will succeed winter. Earth candles are lit to offer encouragement and hope. We have dug out a hole for our candle, and the light was on for about two days and two nights, when a storm came and blew out our candles. Views[473]
