On a Crest of A Wave . . .

The Search for Moby . . .

USA | Wednesday, 7 September 2011 | Views [161]

Sophie and I spent the day wandering through a wet Central Park. We ploughed through the puddles with all the excitment of an eager tourist searching for those places that we had seen on movies and TV and have read about. We saw the main broadwalk that is seen in so many movies; Strawberry Fields and the building where Lennon lived and got shot outside of; Madonna's bench; the statue of Hans Christian Anderson - put there for the children who had lost a parent on 9/11; the statue of Alice in onderland.

Sophie nearly tred on a homeless man in a tunnel and grabbing hold of each other we practically legged it out of there! On the search for a toilet - sorry restroom! - we met a posing seal, asked an 'American' where to see the statues who promptly told us whilst I was getting licked to death by his dogs - albeit they were cute - that he didn't even know that they existed! We got lost but Sophie was a star in the map reading. Before we headed home we experienced the delicacy that is the huge pretzel it was salty and far too big to eat!

That night Emma was told that there was a free Moby concer in Washington Square. SO with another girl Christine, who we had met, we went in search for him via the big floor piano that was used in the film 'Big' - something that Christine had searched for I think a day - well it sounded like she had searched for it for 24 hours! That night Emma found out the hard way that short dresses - however quick they may dry from rain - are not a good combo for New York city grills on the ground! Though the men behind did not grumble about it!

Moby it seemed was rained off - so we sat in a little pizza place, for about 1 1/2 hours eating pizza and chatting. We got absolutely drenched on the walk home, Oh and we learn't that the doors of the Metro are relentless and don't give away prisoners easily, admist some girly screams and giggles we saved Christine and Emma from them!

Back at the hostel, this poor guy had been put into our 'girly' room obviously a hostel mistake his face was priceless when he realised that hw was in a room full of Intrepid touring girls but we let him sleep there - after all he needed a bed for the night.

Couldn't sleep so went in the room with Sarah, Emma and Christine. Met Chloe a little, smily Aussie and a German Kirstine - both doing the same tour. On entering my room I fell over a suitcase and giggled over the sight of my bottom in the air before going to bed to try and sleep! Tomorrow our journey begins . . .
