My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - Mei Mei's First Butchering

It is second-nature for someone to see a camera and react with an expression of shock, annoyance, or fear. That’s why intimate candids have always been my favorite photos. Trust is necessary to even enter that space as a photographer. An intimate candid is an exchange of trust between the photographer and her subject. With no training, photography is an experiment on the move for me. My photos are unedited so I am eager to learn how to better edit photos, post-production, and better capturing photos in the moment. Photography became a passion because it was a way to interact with people, stories, life. It’s a way for me to translate the everyday. My camera lens has empowered me to connect with people across languages, ages, and cultural lines. My dream of becoming photographer is rooted in sharing these unguarded moments and honor the stories shared with me. A story is meant to be told, or else, it is no longer a story. I currently live in China and have traveled all over China and some of Asia. The vibrancy and contrast of Oman to anywhere else I have ever been is mind-blowing. My eyes and hands are itching to capture moments, piecing together this story of life in Oman.
