Kiwi Goes Global

Scotland Ho!

UNITED KINGDOM | Tuesday, 31 May 2011 | Views [936] | Comments [2]

Well, I survived the overnight bus-ride without too much hassle.  I think the biggest problem I had was deciding which flavour of chips would be best to get when we did a midnight stop!  Even managed to doze a bit, as I didn't have anyone next to me.

Arrived in Edinburgh at about 7.30am and decided it'd be a good idea to go for a walk before getting on another bus.

Ate my brekky in Prince Street Park and then started wandering at random.  Probably not my best idea, as I got lost and walked far enough to get off my map of the city centre.  Anywho, it was good for 2 reasons:

  1. I saw a dude in a kilt and hat and all, so really felt like I was in Scotland.
  2. On a couple of occasions, I had my map out (and my suitcase beside me) so people coming past offered their help without my even asking!  Go, friendly Scottish people!

Also, the dude in front of me in the bus line said 'aye' in response to a question.  Bless.

Had a nice bus ride to St Andrews... tried to watch the scenery, but had a few moments where my eyes kind of involuntarily closed.

Caught up with Nicole and had a Milo!  Oh, good Kiwi times.  ;p

Hi Libby - it's great you are getting to see Scotland. Dee and I are excited about going there as well. I'd love to hear what you think of St. Andrews. We aren't going to make it to that area as we will be going to Glasgow, the Isle of Bute (you should try to go there as it's our ancestral stomping grounds), Ft. Williams, Inverness and then Edinburgh. Pretty much takes up our days.

You are just becoming a great world traveler. I'm enjoying your blogs. Love, Becky
