My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Monday, November 7, 2011 | 5 photos

I took my first leap out of the country by myself with a photojournalism group to Thailand and Burma during a period of high conflict. These are the photos I captured, eager and wide eyed at the world and with all of the passion and desire to become a photojournalist. I am 19 years old and the craving to travel to exotic places and show the world a story through a medium as magnificent as photography is stronger than ever. I spent the past year studying in London because I am constantly seeking new places to inspire and motivate me. My family views photojournalism as simply another art form, which it is, but what they fail to acknowledge is the impact that even just one photo can have on the entire world. They fail to see the magic and the knowledge that a photograph can convey. In their eyes, I am just another child who has chosen to be an artist. In my soul, I know that I am trying to create an impact and spread news about important issues captivating the globe. I will work throughout my lifetime to share as many stories with the world as I possibly can in hopes of creating a better place for all. I believe it changes the world. With the chance to win this unparalleled opportunity to be mentored by Jason Edwards, I would finally be able to learn through the eyes of a photographer who shoots on a level I hope to someday achieve. I am ready to learn and look forward to this tremendous opportunity. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I know you must have many to get through. I’ll make it easier for you, please choose me.
