No we haven't moved to Washington - believe it or not this is still Palau. It's called the Capitol building and it stands majestically on a hill about 45 minutes from Koror where most of the government and businesses are.
The idea was to build something amazing to show that Palau has a strong place in the world. It was completed in 2006 and cost around $45 million US. It has a beautiful position overlooking the bay and lovely grounds. But it is a bit of a ghost town as there are no other buildings and most people still do not work there. I could easily hold an indoor cricket tournament inside with space to spare! it's also freezing cold as they installed arctic air con and no opening windows. I wear 3 layers and take outdoor breaks every hour when I go there.
Personally I would happily trade it for one of the beautiful Bai buildings with a fresh sea breeze!
