We were lucky enough to be in Hoi An, Vietnam in 2009 and help out with Swim Vietnam. At that time it was a new project to give swim lessons to children in Hoi An. We used 2 hotel swimming pools and had 4 instructors.
Now in 2012 the program is an outstanding success! Over 2.300 children have had lessons and 60 instructors have been trained. Many different government departments and sponsors have been involved so that the project is able to build a second permanent pool. There are also a couple of above ground portable pools so that the lessons can go out to areas further afield.
Asia has terribel drowning rates; people simply do not have the opportunity to learn and there are vast bodies of water as well as annual floods. It was so good to see such a great outcome. Have look at www.swimvietnam.com for more pictures.
