An update on the floods. You have probably seen pictures of Thailand and the Cambodian border on the news. It has been particularly bad there. But here we are fine. The river rises and falls depending on the water upriver but Battambang has enough banks to protect the town. Some roads flood, but are still passable if you are determined. Potholes appear - but they do get filled in.
Unfortunately a lot of more rural areas are under flood and several hundred lives have been lost. Whole houses and rice paddies are covered by the floods. This means there will not be a good rice crop either this year.
Next month is ironically the Water Festival. This is a celebration to mark the time when the Mekong River changes direction and drives the waters back in the Tonle Sap Lake.
