04-Hmong life is a hard life. Temperatures drop down to 0°C during winter - and the hilly area makes it hard to access. This is one reason why their culture was preserved for a long time - but the worldwide modernisation already started there, too.

03-A school and gardens in a Hmong village. Today there´s peace but as Hmong people are proud to have their own culture, different to the vietnamese culture, they are tolerated by the vietnamese government but only to a certain point: in 2014 at least 8 Hmong were arrested as they protested for freedom of religion and belief because of a government campaign forcing the ethnic minority group to return to older funeral practices.

05-The remoteness doesn´t only preserve their culture. It´s also endangered therefore, as for Hmong women it is very difficult to find a man to marry in this scarcity of population.
