    Witness to the Impermanence- A poet calls “Kelaniya Temple” as a place that “never grows old, but every time gains in beauty..” It relates to the fact that, it has reborn from ashes each and every time. 1920’s paintings being the Latest and the most spectacular addition of them all…these become the backdrop, whilst articulating the fact that “In this impermanent world, what lives on is the spirit of the people….” Views[663] A Higher Calling- There's an age-old saying From One Generation to Another- The Faith is passed on from generation to generation, from mom to daughter. The faith is to overcome the life's hardship. As they sit on the 'Rough Sand' and pray for the Light at the end of the tunnel. A beautiful pattern is created on the 'Rough Sand' itself by the light. As if, beauty of Life is also about overcoming the challengers. Views[417] Two Leaves of the Same Plant- We all are born as human and the paths we take defines who we are.. As two leaves from the same plant, some may try to find happiness in life, whilst the others will try let go of all attachments. But the solitary light source in the “Temple Hall” seems to represent 'Nirvana' which is the answer to all life’s suffering. Views[401] A Backdrop for All Eras- From the day of Lord Buddah ‘s second Visit to Sri Lanka , The “Kelaniya Temple”, has been a cymbal of “Buddhism in Sri Lanka”. That may also be the reason for numerous destructions, which it has to withstand throughout the ages. This resilient power of being reborn has made the temple a sanctuary for paintings and sculpture from varies eras. As the sun sets over the Stupa in the background, these 'art forms' becomes the backdrop to everyday life of the people. Views[403]
     
    For this lady peace of mind is far far away. As a street vendor, near the “stupa” she awaits the visit of another customer before the break of day hoping to earn a few rupees more to feed her children. For them stupa becomes a symbol of hope at times regret. As She looks at the customer, who came to kiosk next to her’s, Maybe… she is envying the fact that her “Hopes and dreams” will have to wait within the space, a little bit longer…. Views[341] The “Ruwana Weli Maha Stupa” draws everyone to it. Up these stairs thousands are going every day. It becomes a spiritual journey. A path of “hope” taken by thousands of different souls every day, while capturing the aura of the many devotees, the foci of the image becomes an archetypal couple. Everybody goes away with more “Hopes and dreams”………….. Except for one group of people….. Views[293] Over a million devotees visit the sacred stupa related places in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Especially during “Full moon Poya” days such as “Poson ”. Stupa’s are strong and inspiring pieces of architecture, drawing to them different people from different walks of life. They all have one thing in common, that is “Hope”. It is true even with this devotee, who is Circumambulating the “Ruwana Weli Maha Stupa”. As he emerges through all the rough textures, you feel that - by and large “Hope” comes into play when our circumstances are “dire”. Views[609]
