The “Ruwana Weli Maha Stupa” draws everyone to it. Up these stairs thousands are going every day. It becomes a spiritual journey. A path of “hope” taken by thousands of different souls every day, while capturing the aura of the many devotees, the foci of the image becomes an archetypal couple. Everybody goes away with more “Hopes and dreams”………….. Except for one group of people…..

Over a million devotees visit the sacred stupa related places in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Especially during “Full moon Poya” days such as “Poson ”. Stupa’s are strong and inspiring pieces of architecture, drawing to them different people from different walks of life. They all have one thing in common, that is “Hope”. It is true even with this devotee, who is Circumambulating the “Ruwana Weli Maha Stupa”.
As he emerges through all the rough textures, you feel that - by and large “Hope” comes into play when our circumstances are “dire”.

For this lady peace of mind is far far away. As a street vendor, near the “stupa” she awaits the visit of another customer before the break of day hoping to earn a few rupees more to feed her children. For them stupa becomes a symbol of hope at times regret.
As She looks at the customer, who came to kiosk next to her’s, Maybe… she is envying the fact that her “Hopes and dreams” will have to wait within the space, a little bit longer….
