The Arena

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Saturday, November 5, 2011 | 5 photos

To me a place visited is not only longitude and latitude, it’s more than that, it’s a place of being, not just a town or country, but a series of locations, that are one place, it’s nowhere, everywhere and somewhere.
The Rodeo Arena is such a place, it has atmosphere that hangs in the air like dust, where emotions run high, blood sweat and tears are commonplace, adrenaline drives courage to stare fear in the face, and compassion runs deep for animal and man alike.
It is a place I visit often, it’s had a profound effect on my life, and on each visit I endeavour to capture and convey the heart and soul of it to convey the complex emotions that stir there.
I strive to produce images that make people feel something, as if they were there, to wish they were there or know what it’s like to be there, being self taught I go by my gut feeling to try and achieve this, but I want to learn good techniques and habits from the right people so I can give something meaningful and beautiful back to the community.
Already in the course of preparing my entry I have learned much from Mr Jason Edwards’s videos and website.
I’m an arty, energetic, 21 year old homeschooled country girl that loves animals and wide open spaces, I’ve also had the fortune to experience not only rural life, but work in mining and construction, I progressed from operating machinery to environmental administration as I became more aware of sustainable living and natural heritage, which gave me the opportunity to acquire a taste for travel and adventure also.
I am bound to have photography as a large part of the rest of my life – I want to make it matter.
